Electra Theatre, Iglesias: A mirror, uno spettacolo falso e NON autorizzato

11 January 2026

“Fake and Unauthorized Show (A Mirror)” is a refined theatre-within-theatre-within-theatre device—somewhere between Pirandello and Noises Off—arriving in Italy after its acclaimed success in the UK, with a new cast and a striking adaptation.

Set in an imaginary totalitarian state, where every artistic work must pass through the “Censorship Office”, the wedding of Nina and Leo in an elegant event hall is merely a façade: the audience becomes witness and accomplice to an illicit underground performance.

Truth is constantly questioned, roles are overturned, and the looming presence of the police progressively erases the boundary between stage and backstage. The result is a dark, sharp-witted thriller charged with irony and adrenaline, probing freedom of speech, authoritarianism, and censorship, and inviting the spectator to play an active role.

In his director’s notes, Giancarlo Nicoletti highlights the strong contemporary relevance of the themes—truth, freedom of expression, the ways in which power manipulates narratives, and the fragile boundary between theatrical fiction and lived experience—framed within a “Chinese-box mechanism” that continuously shifts perspective until a surprising finale.
